Just wondering if anyone can help me with a little 'problem' I seem to have.
I am a relative newby to skywatching so forgive me if my question appears silly.
I have a 10" f5 Skywatcher relflector and have been expanding my eyepiece range. After research (or so I thought) which suggested that for fast newts these should be ok, I decided to splash out andpurchase to Baader Hyperion series (3.5mm, 5, 8, 13, 17, 21).
Nice viewing tonight so I get them out to play. Alas, disaster! Using ANY of these eyepieces I am unable to rack my focuser out far enough to focus correctly (looking at Jupiter)! So I checked with my 30mm GSO superview...beautiful views. I removed the 1.25" part of the 17mm Baader and just used to 2" portion (with obvious alterations to focal length) and it was ok.
Can anyone please explain to my why this might be happening and if there is any solution other than putting my tail between my legs and asking if I can return my beautiful new pieces.
Thanks!!

http://www.andrewscom.com.au/site-section-10.htm This link here shows Focal Extenders. They fit into the focuser tube and extend the Back focus .Try this Put your eyepiece back in wind the focus back then loosen the Eyepiece clamp and slowly move the eyepiece back toward's you and see if things come into focus.then you will know you will need an Extender. Tony .P.s be careful of screwing the bottom half of the Hyperion off. Small bits of paint etc. can break off and contaminate the eyepiece lens.

Thanks for your prompt help Tony!
I will give it a go tomorrow nite, I had thought of the focal extender as a maybe solution.

Have you tried leaving the 1.25" eyepiece adapter in the focuser and using the eyepieces in 1.25" mode?

That's a good piont from Casstony .Every Dob I've seen has a 1.25 adapter inside the the 2 inch adapter. The Idea is your Hyperion Has the 1.25end on it .So you pull the plastic blank plug out.there is the 1.25 hole in goes the 1.25inch part of the Hyperion.that keeps it out far enough to focus. If you are putting the 2 inch part of the hyperion down into the 2 inch part of the focuser and locking it in there with the 1.25 bit on the end.You have got it down to far in the Focuser. So you don't get enough Back Focus.

I always found the Hyperions more pleasant to use in 1.25" mode anyway..

Forget about the 2inch function of this EP, to get this to work you need to unscrew the bottom Smythe element, and then the field curvature is huge. This is a marketing tactic from Baader (unless you're happy with field curvature).
Use these EP's in the 1.25inch mode, they work very well for the money when used correctly even in an f5 scope. I am sure you must be placing them in the focuser via the 2inch section with the 1.25inch section still attached, you will not get an image. Make sure you use the adapter in the focuser for 1.25inch mode, you will love the views, they will definately come to focus.

and...viola!!! Using the 1.25" eyepiece adapter instead of using the 2" has solved my problem. I'm on my way now. I can now see that I need to re-collimate my scope. I thought my laser collimator was out of collimation itself as it traces an elliptical shape when I rotate it in the focusser. SO chershire here I come! Can anyone suggest a method to re-collimate / calibrate my laser collimator? I thought of putting it in a pipe vice and rotating / tracing its path and re-jigging it that way. But it wil be pretty fiddley. Any ideas?
Unfortunately I have the plague and will have to wait until the cold air doesn't vaporise whats left of my lungs to fully explore my new EPs.
Thanks!! :D

I never had a focus issue in 2" mode, it was just painful changing EPs, and they never seemed sit right in the focuser

I agree with you guys - forget the 2 inch mode and just use the 1.25. If you cant wind focus out far enough, then simply dont insert the EP barrel all the way in.:) I have to do this with my 12"LB when using the Meade 26 mm QX:D
