Full Moon Imaging

Hi Guys, well I would never have dreamed that one could actually image under the Moon light.

I just cant wait to get this modded 5D under dark skies, however it is crystal clear at the moment and thought, lets see what this thing can do with the full Moon, up and bright.

I know it is not ideal conditions but i just wanted to see if how it would all come out.

Well to say the least, i was amazed at the detail that could still be captured. :eyepop:

It seems to me, now that i have the raw converting in order the rest seems to follow.

Once these very washed raws were processed the results were very surprising indeed.

So as we speak the scope is out there doing a run, just need to test the limits before the light pollution takes over.

Just thought I would share this with you, but you all probably knew this anyway.

Hi Leon,

Looking forward to seeing it. When its all said and done it is amazing what can be done under light polluted skies and moonish :) conditions, without resorting to narrowband.

It would be interesting to know how the film guys fare under such conditions or if its only the sensitivity of modern CCD's which make it all possible.

I took this image a while ago with my 400 D, under full moon conditions and I reckon it turned out all right :)

Hell yea, it sure did, I was always a bit hesitant to image even when the Moon was half or so and was still under the horizon.

I had this thought, that if I was half way through a am imaging run and the Moon came up the frames would be spoilt.

Gee I have a lot to learn.

Most of my DSO images have been taken under an almost Full Moon and the results were good.

However I do prefer to image without a Moon.

Ahh, you guys. Bolt on a NB filter (if a DSLR, preferably modded) and the moon is irralevent :D.

And what would suggest for my set up Fred, 5D modded, through the Tak.

For Ha rich emmision Nebulae, Ha. Not good for Galaxys tho. The moon and Galaxys are both broadband light sources, filter one, the other suffers, no answer to that, that I know of.
