Red tinted Specs

I read in one of the US mags recently about someone who had a pair of red-tinted glasses that they used to put on (whilst still inside the house) 20 mins before the start of an observing session, in order to get their eyes dark adapted.

Simillarly, if they had to go back inside whilst in the middle of a session, it was a simple matter of just slipping the glasses back on before going inside, etc.

Has anyone tried this? Do you think it would work? And if so, where the ****ens do you get a pair?

Been doing that for 29 years. It works! I just use shade 4 el-cheapo's though. Not sure if red one's work or not..

I use a black plastic eyepatch for my observing eye and it works wonders. The eyes appear to be independant in their dark adaptation so its great unless your into binoviewing :D

It's all in the eyes guys. A simple chemical action/reaction to the light levels. This is why your eyepatched eye 'sees' better than the oncovered one does! Self explanatory, really.
But that's just my logical/mechanical mind at work. :D L.

I will have to get an eye patch. I get fed up closing one eye every time I walk back inside. Gets a bit uncomfortable.
