View Full Version here: : ToUcam/K3 Tools playing up

Anyone know why this might be happening?:

I'm getting an increasing incidence of the capture screen freezing soon after I begin capturing an AVI with the ToUcam running on K3CCDTools.

It usually happens after about 5 or 6 seconds. The program continues to capture, but the preview screen freezes. The histogram/brightness bar empties.

I right click and stop it recording. Press start for another capture run and it works perfectly.

Problem is...it's doing this more frequently lately and I end up with about 40 AVIs where I usually only record about 20...with half of the 40 being the ones which I've had to stop because of the 'freezing' issue:mad2:

Any thoughts suggestions are most welcome.

Can't really help you, but the suggestion is talk direct to the boss. Peter has a fantastic support system, write to him and ask, OR post on the forum that he has for the software.

Hi Matt

Has anything changed since the system last worked correctly?

New computer?
New Operating System?
New install?
Added any new software?
Updated anything? OS? K3CCDTools?
Changed the USB port or hub?
Changed any settings in K3?
Is your USB mouse and ToUcam connected to the same USB hub (if you have one?)
Is your HDD full?
Does your HDD need defragmenting?

Cheers

Thanks Gary and Dennis.

Dennis - same lappy...same OS...

However, I have installed a few small programs since it last worked flawlessly.

The are not running when I use the laptop, but they are there. I've removed a couple since they were just try-and-sees.

I've also installed a few Windows updates in the last few weeks.

I've also got the mouse and ToUcam plugged in on top of each other in the two separate USB ports on the right-hand side of my latop. I've got more USB ports at the rear of the lappy. I'll plug the ToUcam in there and see how I go. However, it's never been a prob before:shrug:

Plenty of room on the HDD and doesn't need defragging.

Thanks for your help, guys:)

Hi Matt

I have read that sometimes, a Windows update may require a particular application to also be updated, or you may get some problems? I can’t say that this has happened to me, yet, although I’m still on XP Pro.

Careful with plugging the ToUcam into another of the native USB ports – I did this once and it wanted me to insert the CDROM again, so I returned it to the original USB port where I first installed it.

I have noticed that certain USB devices are happy to be plugged into any native USB port, but others seem quite particular and always require plugging into the port in which they were first installed.

Hope you find a fix.

Thanks for the info, Dennis.

I'm sure it'll work itself out.

FYI...I also ordered some extra RAM for my laptop the other day, which will take it from 512Meg to 2Gig once I've installed it.

That'll give me a bit more grunt and help with running programs etc

Cheers.

And on the topic of replacing/upgarding the RAM modules.

I was reading the Dell handbook which came with my Inspiron 6000 and it talks about powering off the computer, removing the battery and the optical drive and HDD when I carry out the RAM replacement.

It says once installed, I then reinstall the HDD and power up so the lappy can recognise/identify new hardware.

Surely I don't need to remove the HDD and OD to replace the RAM??????

I would have thought I just have to power down, remove the battery, replace the RAM and power up again?

Is this correct?

Many thanks for any help provided.

if k3ccd still continues to play up

i would recommend the free qfocus for capturing with the toucam

Hi Matt

I have no direct practical experience of the task you are attempting, but the only reason I can think of to remove the OD and HDD is if they are physical barriers to where the RAM slots are situated?

As long as you ground yourself, the computer and the RAM (to avoid damage by electro static discharge), then if you can see and physically access the RAM slots and insert the new modules without the need to remove anything, then I would say, why not?

Dennis - this is, in fact, the case. Neither the HDD or the OD present any type of physical barrier in getting to the RAM modules. They are actually in a completely different area of the laptop.

Cheers.

hi matt,

you install qfocus in french and then you can convert the settings to be in english

Hmm, unless there is some other hidden reason , then maybe the person that wrote the manual did a copy and paste from another manual for a system that required the removal of said hardware and forgot to edit the text to make it apply to your system?

Let us know how you go.
