Hi all,

I saw a few posts in the forums about autostitch so I downloaded it from the web (www.autostitch.net) to give it a try for making a mosaic of the moon. I cannot find a way to get a good result though, attached is the result I get. The settings in the software do not seem to enable me to stop this distortion, perhaps due to the tool's being designed to produce 360 degree panoramas...any advice from experianced users? The photostitch program that came with my camera is also inadequate for this work as it expects shots to align horizontally and/or vertically so it cannot cope with polar aligned DEC/RA slews...

That's quite strange John, I used to produce a moon mosaic no probs. Check the options, and set everything to default. Make sure there's nothing set in there about max size/width etc.

Also, you could try zipping up the parts of the mosaic and i'll see if I can get them to stitch together.

The autostitch program has an option to auto straighten designed to remove the horizon curve inherent in landscape images; you could try turning that off.

Hi all,

I found the problem...basically the program is smart but the user is not, I had missed a section of the moon when I shot the mosaic - and so I attempted to fill in with a shot from another run - the illumination was sufficiently different to stuff up the alignment routines I believe....now I have a nice moon with a chunk missing....

Nice image John, and don't worry it won't be the last time you attempt a mosaic and miss some pieces.. almost every mosaic i've done has resulted in some missing pieces :)
