I've lost count of how many descriptions of drift alignment I've read in the last 6 months - I'd say about a dozen in the last 24 hours. For some reason my brain refused to remember the mnemonics, the handy rules, the smart simulations and the technobabble.

And I've fought with my mount too many times when I should have been observing.

So tonight, with the significant other out for the evening and kids tucked up in bed I returned to the fray...and I cracked it. Well I think I did - the clouds came over after about 20 minutes but I was finally able to adjust the Az screws enough to slow and then stop the drift on a star on the meridian.

So I'm chuffed:)

Good luck. I suspect that when you get it, it all seems so simple but if you don't it can drive you mad

It's a mongrell of a thing. With practise it does get easier. For visual work it is not so bad and you certainly don't need to get to precise but for imaging accuracy is the prime chalange.

Spent last night going back and forth from Meridian to eastern horizon etc, still didn't get it as good as I would like. I'll try again tonight!

Once it is mastered, not that I'm a master, :whistle: it it all seems so easy, but the procedure is so easy to forget as well if one hasn't done it for a while.

I wrote it down as I went, but now question myself as to it being correct what I had written. :shrug: :lol:
