Solar Filters

With a partial eclipse not far off, I reckon its time to purchase a solar filter.

It seems that glass filters are likely to offer the best long term eye protection. I have found two types being advertised in Australia: JMB Type A, and Thousand Oaks Type 2.

So the question - which is the better?

I've had both and can't really say there was much difference between them. I would probably go for which ever one was easier to get your hands on.

One additional piece of info: JMB gives a lifetime warranty on their class A filters and 8 years on class B, while Thousand Oaks gives 15 years on the Class 2+ and 3+.

Can anyone please explain what is the difference between Class A and B filters or Class 1,2,3 filters? I got Meade ETX-105 and would like to try Solar imagining with it. What would be good Solar filter for it? Only time I looked on the Sun was thru welding mask, so I got no idea what to expect when I use 4” Mak and CCD camera.
