The elusive Sigma Octantis (σ Oct) is no longer elusive thanks to the brilliant guide on http://www.users.on.net/~pbl/art_sh_polar_alignment.htm (http://www.users.on.net/~pbl/art_sh_polar_alignment.htm). I found it a year, or so, ago and it has owned a place in my jewel box.
