Hi Guys,

I am trying to get my head around Layering, and using a short exposure mask to help with the brightness of some Astronomical object, probably the main culprit being M42.

I has been said that it is a wise choice, if using PS2 for this procedure, that one should take a number of different timed exposures, for example, 10 @ 15 seconds, 10 at 30 seconds, and probably the most important 10 at, at least 300 seconds, and so on.

OK, this seems fairly reasonable to me, and i can understand why this would be the case.

I presume that once these exposures are taken, one aligns each set, and combines each set to end up with a final 16 BitTiff Image, yes..... therefore ending up with, say, 5 Images at 5 different times.

Now this is where I get a bit confused, at this point dose one then combine the last set of 4 Images, into one image, and then bring that Image into PS2 using the first set of the shortest exposures to do that fancy Layer Masking stuff.

I am probably all over the shop here, but would i be close, could some kind person please explain the procedure to get the Images into PS2 for final processing.

Thank You in advance.

Leon

Leon, I found it too hard to work out layering in PS.

I use EasyHDR which does it automatically, then alows you you fiddle and adjust each individual layer afterwards.

Leon,

My suggestion, if you want to persevere with PS is to stack the images from each exposure first, then use HDR to combine the different exposures. You can do HDR processing in PS CS2 and 3.

Of course, there are many different ways to combine your images in PS - and then theres all the specialist software...;)

Thanks Guys, but i think i might have lead you up the garden path a bit, now that i re read my initial post.

What I meant to say was this....I would take the desired amount of images at different exposures, align/combine/stack etc in Image Plus, then when i had the two final images i would take then to PS2 and finish them off, so to speak.

Dose that make more sense, gee, I'm confusing myself here.
