ok so this is the question.
setting up the laptop in the garage at home and i need to run cables to the dslr.
1:i use dslr focus so i need to run a usb cable to the dslr remote port so i am wondering is 15 metres going to give me data transmission problems and what kind of cable should i be using .
laptop is an old toshiba so its running a usb interface

I think you can have long USB cables, but you may need a hub/repeater. I think there was a previous question about USB cables a few weeks ago - perhaps do a search.

Col we are using an older type Toshiba laptop at the moment ( need to upgrade ). We use a standard 5met usb cable to connect our Pentax DSLR to the laptop and have never had any problems with signal.

However in setting up for autoguiding recently we found that our power hungry DSI Pro camera needed a 5met Repeater Cable.

Also tried to use a powered hub but camera would not connect when the hub was in the line.

You can get (and will need) 3 x 5m (for 15m) USB repeater cables from ebay for about $20 each, I believe, from a local Aussie Power seller.

:thumbsup: cheers guys , hope to have this setup shortly , the repeater cable seems like a good choice off your recommendations , just need to get a long cable for the hand controler and elecy focuser now which wont be a problem:)
