Tech Help Needed

Hi Guys

We are setting up for auto guiding, using PHD and a GPUSB Adapter with a DSI Pro camera. - Our laptop has USB2 by way of a PCMCIA card.

When we open PHD it recognizes the camera and our scope (GPUSB).

If the loop icon is opened the program says it is capturing images.

The problem is that then the mouse freezes and cannot be used until the computer is restarted. It does the same thing if we connect a powered hub to the pcmcia card.

Is it something we are doing wrong ?

Would appreciate any help to get us going.

David, mine did the same with the DSI-c.
Powered Hub for DSI and mouse. Mouse froze repeatedly.

I plugged the mouse into the USB slot in the back of the lappy and it works fine now.
I have since found out why, Apparently DSI's use the whole 5v draining anything else of power.

Tried that Ken - no go.

It may well be the laptop needs more ram.

We have a PCMCIA 4 Port USB2 Card in the side of the laptop and when we plug in the Powered Hub, the laptop freezes.
It doesn't seem to matter where we put the Powered Hub, the mouse freezes.

Is the mouse USB 2 or 1?

I would think it was a supplied current issue.

Can you test your hardware inside on a PC and confirm it all works?

Is your Laptop being run off a mains adapter - or merely battery power when you try this?

The DSI is a current hungry monster. Maybe the other thing you can try if your PC has a serial port is plugging in an old fashioned serial mouse or PS/2 mouse and seeing if this setup is stable.

Alternatively connect the PC to a mains powered hub and the DSI to said Hub - see if that helps.

g-day.

Have tested on PC inside which is 3GIG MHZ, 1GIG Ram and 80GIG HD.
and everything works okay,as long as usb extension leads are not used.

The laptop is running on mains power and have tried serial mouse as well but to no avail.

The USB port on the laptop is only USB1, so I am using a PCMCIA Card for USB2 connections. I have a 4 port Powered USB2 Hub. but if I plug the powered hub into the pcmcia card PHD can't find the camera.

Barb bought a 5 met USB2 Active Extension Cable yesterday from Dick Smith and the camera fired up okay on the pc inside ,even with me adding another plain 5 met usb extension cable making it a 10 met run to the scope. - But again not if I connect the powered hub.

It seems that laptop wise we need to purchase another laptop with a more power.
