Comparison test - DSI, Toucam, & Scopes

I spent today practicing with the DSI in Daylight to see if I could learn how to use the programs properly.

After about 5 hours af pulling my hair out, I decided to do a test.

All 3 images below are on the exact same settings and all equally captured at 0.002 of a second.

The sheep are 4k away.

Image 1 - DSI in ED80 captured in Envisage
Image 2 - Toucam in ED80 captured in Desire
Image 3 - Toucam in 120mm Achro captured in Desire

dsi is seriously contrasty.... can you adjust it afterward?

Ken what IR filter are you using with the DSI?

Yes.

I purposely didn't do any processing on these images. They are straight out of the cameras.

I used the same Astronomiks IR/UV filter in all the shots.

Ken did you take the original filter out of the dsi?

the extra contrast of the DSI Ken, maybe that is affecting the image:shrug:

Ken, Have you tried Craig Stark's Nebulosity I bought it for use with the Orion Starshoot and because it also works with DSLR's. I think you can get a trial version. It's fairly straight forward to use.

Nebulosity is awesome - forget about Meades embarrassing software......

I did go look at the Nebulosity program.
Looks just as complicated as the others (Envisage, K3ccd etc).

I didn't even understand 90% of the terminology in it. :eyepop:

Also too many buttons & too many settings. I get lost very easy and give up.

Ken - leave everything at default - choose exposure duration, no of subs, give the files a name and hit capture..... the manual is quite technical in parts, but the software is a joy to use.....
