My first Televue eyepiece - Woo Hoo!

"First"? Well, I hope I can afford to buy more one day :D

This is a Televue 20mm plossl - about as entry-level to Televue as you can get??

Many thanks to the kind IIS member who sold me this eyepiece. It's seen first light with me, but unfortunately, not in the telescope! I plan on it replacing my Bintel 15mm plossl originally supplied with the scope. So I compared views through both, looking towards a well lit surface. I could immediately see that the edge of field was much sharper in the Televue plossl. I could also see the whole field of view in the Televue better than in the Bintel. The Televue barrel is also shorter, much the same as my Vixens, so the worry of the eyepiece striking a 2" filter (eg. my DGM NPB filter :scared:) fitted to the 2"--> 1.25" adapter has now gone, thankfully.

Well, it's in the eyepiece case now until I can get out under the sky - sometime next week, hopefully.

Congratulations on your new acquisition...I hope that you get years of enjoyment.

While there is no doubt that the TV (along with some other unnamed brands) are top shelf and you will likely see an improvement over the standard GSO plossl that you have been using...the fact is that the GSO are not too bad in a value for money first scope owner kind of way and are quite usable...

While I am happy for you...the objective of the game regardless of the equipment that you have is to use it and use it often...the equipment that is most used is "the best" in my opinion...

I purchased a TV 25mm and 15mm (and TV 2X barlow) Plossl's for base viewing. I love them.

I found the 15mm (133X) not enough magnification for Jupiter and too much when used with the Barlow (266X). The 25mm was better when used with the Barlow (160X), still I'm considering a 11mm TV Plossl to give around 180X, which I reckon will be the max for planetary thru my C8.

I'm also considering a TV 32mm Plossl. They are supposed to be the bee's knee's in Plossl's although at that power I should consider a wider field of view, maybe Orion Stratus (although they do not have the FL I want) or Vixen LVW's....and the house in debt.

But I must say, the TV's are good eyepieces for the price.

My 20mm TV Plossl is my favourite EP - I enjoy the views through it more than my Pentax, easily my most used EP, followed by the 32mm.....

First light (for this user) last night and I'm very impressed. Now I know what you are all talking about when you say pin-sharp stars from edge to edge. This eyepiece came in close to this level of performance for me. With the scope collimated as best as I could, centred stars were very sharp and stayed well focussed out to fairly close to the edge of the FOV. Also the edge of the field was easily seen - eye relief is good. I found it was best to have the eyecup up (40 km distant Melbourne skyglow was still bright - casting shadows!).

With my 2" DGM NPB filter in place on the adapter, this eyepiece didn't threaten to touch its surface, as did the 15mm GSO plossl. Tarantula and Carina nebulae were engrossing!

Congrats on the eyepiece, Eric. I've gazed through around a dozen TeleVue products and haven't been let down yet.

How good are they! Currently own a 32mm Plossl and it's just a pleasure. No comparison to the GSO. Can't wait to grow the Tele Vue family!

First light for my 20 mm TV Plossl tonight, also bought second-hand from this forum. I've been waiting all week for the (extremely unusual) cloudy weather to clear and tonight was my first chance. Seeing wasn't great, there was wind down at scope level and the nearly full moon was well up.

Despite all that there was clearly a big difference in the contrast with either my 25 mm GSO Plossl or my MAS 15 mm ED2. There was less edge of field brightening and the stars looked sharper too. I wouldn't say they were totally sharp edge to edge, but my scope is f5 so until someone sells me a paracorr on the cheap...

Can't wait to try it on a still, clear night with no moon!

I am glad that you are happy with your acquisition. TV (as well as some others) do make some good gear. I hope you get many hours of enjoyment out of it.
