View Full Version here: : Where to buy firewire cable with powerjack..FOUND
The Imaging Source offer a 4pin to 6pin firewire cable that also has a powerjack attached, in a Y configuration.
I haven't been able to find this same cable in Australia.
Does anyone know where I can get one here?
Does someone have this Y-cable that they don't need?
Thanks

Hooray! Thanks Andrew.
I got no hits from Google nor Yahoo for Aust/world - I did many searches. And I checked some cable and pc sites.
Please tell me what you entered in the search field or did you check some sites?
I have emailed them for what the length is - probably 2m, good enough.
Thanks again.

Neither.
I knew StarStuff had recently started retailing the DMK cameras.
Several days a go, a mate bought one and also a Y cable :-)
The cable uses a 5.5x2.1mm centre positive plug, and he was having problems getting his power supply to work ( as it had 5.5 x 2.5mm plugs )
hence i physically saw the cable and knew what you were after.
I cant remember the length but it was about 1.5m

Cable is 2m long.

Although this cable works fine, a neater solution is to buy a powered firewire hub, and use a 6pin cable to power the camera from the hub.
The biggest advantage of this is that you can have a much longer lead from the cam to the hub, and hub to the PC as the hub acts as a repeater.
Starstuff sell a powered hub that will do the job for about $80, and you can in theory use a cable right up to 4.5m long if you have to.
The cable with the Y adapter is $50, plus you need a power supply as well, plus the right plug on the end of the adapter.

I use a powered hub too. I got mine from streetwise.com.au about 18 months ago.
You might also look at getting the thin, white firewire cables to replace the thick, silver ones. The silver ones get really inflexible in the cold and make things more difficult. I got a 2m one (I think) from nextbyte (apple shop).
Thanks, fellas, I have considered the hub.
However, it seems to be more equipment = 2 cables, hub, power adapter.
With Y-cable = the y-cable, power adapter.
I already have a suitable adapter with changeable connectors - the connectors attach very firmly to end of adapter cable.
I'm looking to keep equipment setup to a minimum.
Is there anyone using the Y-cable setup with a camera?
It seems to me the only advantage with a firewire hub is the extra ports.
