Does anyone use an AC adapter for a canon DSLR

after one abortive attempt at buying an AC adapter for my 300D-the adapter I bought was for the 305 D and as it turned out was a lemon anyway..i am again considering purchasing an AC adapter..mainly because of the hassles of changing batteries causing the autoguiding to be disturbed sometimes losing the guide star etc etc. I usually need to change the battery at least twice in one imaging session

my question is will the ac adapter work for long imaging sessions of 4 to 6 hours or so continuously? I am not sure it is actually designed for that sort of continuous operation, hence the question

your experiences and advice would be greatly appreciated

I recently bought one Narayan (about 4 or 5 weeks ago) and used it for the first time, extensively, at Astrofest. Mine was turned on just after sunset, left on until going to bed at between 3:30 and 4:30 in the morning and only missed one night in 6 due to cloud. It never missed a beat in all that time and I didn't find it getting overheated at all. During this time the camera was taking images or darks the whole time.


I wouldn't be without it now. The batteries are great for back up or away from 240V, but if I'm near a powerpoint I'll use the adapter

The one I bought was this one : Canon ACK-E2

Just checked there Ken (one of my favourite camera shops :D) but they don't have one at the moment :(

The only thing I didn't like about it was the power cable that ran from the transformer to the replica battery. It is quite stiff and needs to be nudged gently into the slot for it before you can shut the battery case cover of the camera.

I can run my adapter (via a UPS and mains) 7 * 24 - seems to be fine after 6 months!

Have to agree with what has been said, run mine for the 350D for up to 6 hours with no problems, seems to leave a lower heat signature when doing Lights and Darks as well.
