I have justed tried to use DeepSkyStacker (DSS) but I am having trouble.

I am using a Canon 300D and having images in CRW format.

I can load and view the light images in CRW and see colours and details.

I load the dark frames in CRW

I check the frames for processing

Then Stack Check Pictures

The software then goes and does it magic.

The final image is then displayed, but it appears to be in black / grey / white. I can clearly see the image and the details. Using the magification tool I can see colour fringes around the stars, so there is some colour in the image.

Is this normal? It is possible that I may have unintentionaly changed a setting somewhere.

I have visitied the the DSS support / group pages but could not understand their solution about changing values. I have tried processing the image in Photoshop elements but had no success. So hints would be helpful.

Thanks Brendan

Hi Brendan,

After DSS has done its thing the image looks a bit boring. I adjust the RGB sliders until the image comes out, then onto saturation where I set it to about 16%, then change the intensity values. final adjustments can be done in photoshop or similar program. You will have to play around with the settings until you find something that works for you.

Hope this helps.

It's the only hint I know and you probably already know this but...
When you do your final Save, make sure you click to Apply Changes to Saved Image. Otherwise it will only embed the changes and you'll have to fish them out again with PhotoShop.

That has been a fairly standard result for some of the shots I have processed Brenden. Save the image and then open it into Photoshop, you may find that it looks fine, if not the try a curve stretch and see what happens.

I was having trouble with the final being too dark after Deep Sky Stacker also, when using RAW images.

I found by converting them to TIFF, and in options I could set the settings to accept my camera, where as in RAW there was no such adjustments.

Now the final comes out nicely.

Mine all come out in grey/black/white also, if I save it, it'll look like one frame and I have to bring out the detail in photoshop, which increases the crappiness of the picture. I haven't tried the RGB sliders because my computer is too darn slow.

Thanks. I'll give it all a try.

I think the same question and possible solution is on this thread (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=23041) mate.
