Hi everyone, i need a great help from you.
(I hope you will excuse my poor english, i write from italy)

that's my problem : i bought DSRLfocus, but after more than two weeks i can't make it works !! I am hopeless!!

Now i describe precisely the question.

1) Instruments:

PC: toshiba satellite A100, 2Mb Ram, Microsoft VISTA
Camera : Canon eos 300D - memory compact flash 2Gb - firmware 1.1.1
DSRLfocus : release 3.3.14

2) Operation:

Open DSRLfocus
connect camera with usb cable
switch camera
set camera to the normal settings for FOCUSING (manual/800iso/2.5"/medium-normale size)
press "space bar"
i hear the shutter open and then close
i view the image in the lcd of the camera......

BUT NOW arrive the problems!

1) the image is non transferred to the PC: i dont see any window open on the PC screen; the image is only visible for few seconds in the camera LCD.
2) the image is not registered in the memory card of the camera
3) the camera is blocked (block off - stopped - crash...dont know the correct translation), and i have switch it off to reset it.

After all my attemps, i am not able to use it. I really hope in your help, because in the forum i use to visit here in italy i got no solution, many guys told me their opinion, but non one works.

thanks a lot, everyone

Hi Giorgio,

Welcome.

Maybe DSLRFocus Does'nt work with Vista? Maybe try a Computer with XP on it and see if it works. If it does, the you know Vista is the problem.

Worth a try.

ballaratdragons, thank you for the answer, so quickly.
yes, it worth the try

It may be Vista the core of the problem, you are right.

Certainly i will try to find a computer with Xp or other, as soon is possible, to make a test;

But, in the while, is there someone in the forum that is using Vista on his PC ? and DSRL focus has problems like me ?

thanks

It sounds like you are doing everything right Amletico. I would be looking for a vista upgrade driver. I've had a chance over the past couple of weeks to try vista with a number of astronomy related programs and it has been a nightmare trying to get some of them to work. Thank goodness it has been on someone elses computer. It has convinced me not to get vista for the near future.

There has been discussion about Vista on the DSLRFocus Forum of late, simple answer is it dosen't work with Vista, people are trying, using XPSp2 mode ? (I know nothing about Vista). The main problem is the Camera Drivers, Canon Vista compatable drivers are, I am led to believe, not available within DSLRFocus as yet.

If you are looking for a completely Vista compatable solution, the latest ImagesPlus is completely compatable. Check here:

Try taking the flash memory card OUT of the camera.

hey, it's very good have all these friends. thanks everibody!

bloodhound31, i tried that way, but the problems remain the same....

1ponders and JohnG, i agree: the problem may be Vista, and just now i am looking for a PC with XP, where to test DSRLfocus.

You also suggested to find a new camera driver: excuse, i am a beginner with digital camera (just 2 months!!!), but ... what is a camera driver ? where can i find one ? on Canon web-site ? make a search on the web ?

you see, you have to be very patient with this itaian newbie...

hello :)

Hi

You will probably have to go into your Regional Canon site and get the latest WIA Driver.

I am not sure if that will be compatable to Vista or not. The DSLRFocus Group seem to think that if you run it under the Windows XP Service Pack 2 compatability mode it should work. I have used DSLRFocus for quite a number of years now with a 350D with absolutely no problems at all under Win XP.

hey john, i've just had a brief look at your site:
the foto are fantastic: omega centaury is a dream, is something that makes understand what telescopes are for !!! really !!!

I see that you have the Sirius dome: i dreamed about it for a while, but its price - in italy - is off - off - my pocket; one day i will make a little backyard observatory by myself, perharps in wood. one day...

about canaon driver: thanks for the direct link; i found it and downloaded the driver. tonight i will install it at home, in the PC i use for the telescope.
BUT ....Where have i to install it ??
Do i need to create a new diretory ? i have to install it in the directory where are the 2 programs of canon ?

A curiosity : what time is it now for you ? here is 2.40 p.m. - i am in office.

bye

Thanks for the compliment Giorgio. :D

Just download the file and execute it, it will go to where it is required.

Skies have been hopeless down where I live of late, last time I was able to image was over 3 months ago, get clear skies only during the full moon period.

humm..... i see that all the world is the same!
the sky over my head is full of smog and light pollution is very strong: the only days good for observing are during .. total black-out !!

you live and observ very far from the city and light? your photos are very nice...

i live nearby a big city, and the sky is often .... orange!
