Hi All,
I would like to try some voice recognition software on my PC, but have no experience of it.
Has anyone here used voice recognition software, either for computer control or dictation?
If so, which software have you used, does it work and how well?
I am grateful for any input.
Regards,
David.

Hi David
I have used DigitalSky Voice (http://www.digitalskyvoice.com/index.htm)(DSV) which is an astronomy specific application. It has not been available, pending an upgrade or re-write, for perhaps 12 to 18 months.
DSV was very good indeed – written by an astronomer for astronomers’, so I am eagerly awaiting the update as currently it does not work with my Tak mount.
The only issue I had with DSV is that it had some difficulty interpreting my broad, Northern English accent (Lancashire), and it does not learn – it works on specific commands. The other in-the-field inconvenience was being tethered to your PC via the head set, although modern wireless headsets may be the answer here.
Other than that, I did have a play around with Dragon Speaking Naturally Preferred V8 and it did offer some limited functionality with SkyTools (http://www.skyhound.com/cs.html) and the Real Time add on which offers telescope control. However, having been spoiled by the rich and tightly integrated functionality and performance of DSV, I won’t be using Dragon as it’s too clumsy.
Cheers
Dennis

Thanks for your replies guys. Looks as though it may not be so easy to do yet, so maybe I'll just wait for the technology to progress a bit further before I try it.
Regards,
David.
