Locking a USB

Good morning to all you guys hope you have a great day.

Just a small question please, and that is can one lock a USB Drive with sensitive information on it.:shrug:

Scenario: I have a USB Drive that I am working on with text that is very private and I would rather it stays that way.
So if someone came across it could I lock it somehow so they cant access the information.

You could encrypt the file itself then without the encryption key it can't be unlocked?

Been using for over a year now. I have two partitions, one private with personal sensitive information using a fingerprint and the other a normal drive with data I access on a daily basis.

There's fingerprint scan drives too as mentioned bythe above member which I didn't mention after watching the promo video because I see them destroying USB ports on the laptop main boards themselves (and they are far from cheap), please don't use the things like shown in the promotional video, it looks like they are all pushing the drive down so hard they WILL break the USB port within the laptop. My son showed me the video just the other day. We cringed because we've replaced USB ports on friends laptops in the past, that and barrel jacks (power input) and both are far from easy to replace, now I just tell people to buy a new device.

Here is a simple and inexpensive way to do this.

1. Install 7-zip

2. Create a compressed archive with .7z extension

3. Password protect the archive

4. To open: right click archive, select 7-zip, then "open archive."

5. Double click on file and enter PW.
