Maybe someone can help us out :help:

We're having trouble understanding layering more than two images in Photoshop7.

We want to (stack) Layer 4-6 images.

We've gone into Tutorials etc but we haven't been able to grasp it yet.

Maybe we're just stupid !!!! :P

Can someone possibly guide us through it step by step.

We have trouble with stacked images in DSS . When they turn out grey we get the colour back into the image but that creates very high noise like pixels which won't filter out. So we want to try Photoshop as we don't loose the colour from our original images.

By the way we are only shooting in JPEG at this stage

Thanks

D & B

Guys, have a look here:

Photoshop 7 is the same as CS2 as far as the basics of handling layers is concerned.

I'm assuming you want to average your images - that's what is described in the thread above. Registax also averages the stacked images. Software that handles deep sky images, like Deepsky Stacker, Registar, etc also gives you the option to sum the images, which means that the fainter areas of your images will become brighter as you stack more images, and the bright stars will probably be saturated or clipped.

Depending on what you want to achieve with your final image will determine which method of stacking you use. For planetary and well exposed images average is usuall the way to go. For faint nebulae, you may want to sum the images when they are stacked to bring out the faint detail.

Thanks Al we'll give your procedure a try

Hope it helps Matt and Ken as well.

We're just glad to know others had the same trouble as we did understanding how to do it.

Will report back how we get on
