I am thinking of setting up one of these. I love the simplicity.

Has anyone here done this? I suspect that the degree of difficulty of modifiying the roof to flip out would be highly dependant on the original shed design and there are so many designs available that you would have to physically inspect to determine the viability of modification... Any hints or pointers?

cheers

You need to build in a frame to prevent flex..he has... you can see timber at ceiling height..I would expect angle iron in each corner would probably be needed and corner support floor to ceiling.
You basically need a frame that wont flex with the roof flipped out.

I've only seen pics of one Obs done this way. It has a major frame construction.

The wind is the biggest problem with this style.

You can try to have the roof on rollers, they should roll down the sides, I think this may be easier way.... but the frame is still needed of course.

BTW, have a look at mine (does not exist any more) it was a shed on 2 tracks (3 wheels at each side), after unlocking and opening the front door wide it could have been moved back 3.5 metres to expose the telescope... It was very cheap to build, frame was welded 1.5" water pipes, the shell was made of waterproof plywood). I am thinking of something like that again :-)
