So, I am at an alcoholic lunch today and a friend says: "a supernova was observed in the southern Pinwheel Galaxy last night." I say: "well I have 3 hrs of luminance on that from last night". Spot the supernova.

I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it seems the supernova was in M101, The Pinwheel Galaxy, rather than M83, The Southern Pinwheel (see this link (https://earthsky.org/todays-image/supernova-in-m101-pinwheel-galaxy-closest-in-a-decade-how-to-see/?fbclid=IwAR1fV9N2juMM2f4hRlYttQDPW FIX97FYayRLdpiDVHHvmVqwB_pSPXar8N0) ). Maybe your friend imbibed too much. ;) :drink:

Well there you go. Thanks for the clarification. Hmm . . Perhaps I should have checked myself before posting! Silly me, I wasn't in a position to fact check it at the time, and as I said "spot the supernova" I could not find it either. Glad you liked the Luminance image. cheers.
