I posted a zoom in on just the Trapezium (https://pbase.com/image/173252056/original), using just the very short exposures, a week or so ago but I have since gathered some longer sub exposure data to complete the second colour image from Eagleview Observatory, a full dynamic range image of the central regions of the Great Nebula in Orion

The seeing for the very short exposures was excellent (FWHM 1.4"-1.7") while for the longer exposures it was not quite as good but still not too bad (FWHM 1.6"-2.0") I used no deconvolution for this image and went easy on the contrast, which can flatten the 3D depth of an image, in an attempt to keep the detail and nebulosity looking as natural as possible

And here is the Full Resolution (https://pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/173261348/origina) version (Pbase - for a good surf around)

See a close up of the Trapezium HERE (https://pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/173252056/original) and all 10 stars in the Trapezium confirmed as separated HERE (https://pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/173278701/original)

Great work Mike,
just the right target too -
a standard candle so anyone can see what your whole setup
and seeing conditions are bringing towards the end result.
It's clearly in another league.

cheers

Nice image.

But, you know, from a certain angle, it could be called the Monsieur Creosote (https://www.deviantart.com/sp3ktr/art/Monty-Pythons-the-meaning-of-life-Mr-Creosote-638219279) nebula. :)

Awesome image Mike. Love the detail in the core which is not washed out at all. The short subs worked a charm.

Happy New Year,

Dilshan

Thanks a lot gentlemen and Happy New Year to you all too

As for Mr Ceosote...there is a slight Steak Tartare vibe happening, particularly around the Trap  :P

Colour and detail is magnificent!! Lovely image
Can I ask what sub lengths you were using for the core?

Very nice shot there Mike! You can definitely see that you’re getting some good seeing, especially on those short exposures

Cheers guys

Dave, I used a selection of 1sec, 5sec and 10sec exposures for the inner core and trap area and 30sec exposures for all the rest :)

That's a bottler Mike, incredible detail within the "Trap". You may have trumped the HST there :). https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2017/messier-42-the-orion-nebula

Cheers Rodney, hoping for a productive year in 2023 :prey:

Thanks Tony, yeah you are quite right in regards to the trap and this particular HST image and while I imagine the original full resolution version would be mind blowing, this smaller version is still a good reference to use to pick out and identify all the detail I have captured
