Hi pixinsight users,

I've started trying to use pixinsight - and have had an issue in weighted batch preprocessing when using lots of sub's.
I've managed to do it on my RGBHaOiii sub's but Luminance crashes (I have way more subs).

I can see it in the system resources the ram useage maxes out (64gb) then it crashes the program. Manages OK when it doesn't need 62gb ram.

Kubuntu 22.10 / ryzen 5950x / nvme / ssd etc. Its obviously doing heavy lifting as I'm using large files from the zwo 6200mm (116mb ea) but don't think it should be crashing as it would be common for pixinsight to reach a ram limit.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Rusty

No idea about Linux stuff but you could try adding a swap/scratch disk like Photoshop allows?

Awesome thanks for the tip Adam - I've got a new spare nvme in there so definitely worth a try - looks like there are some performance gains to be had there

Is it the integration it's failing on?

ok so I have added 8 swap directories on an nvme which didn't seem to make a difference to stability. It either failed at Local Normalisation (which had been going for a while) or right at the start of Integration.

I'm on windows so there may be differences, I can't get local normalization to work so I leave it off. When it won't integrate I can get it to behave sometimes with a fresh reboot and have nothing else running. Otherwise you have to integrate manually and you will need to set the buffer size lower (12) and the stack lower (768).

thanks for that John, I'm not sure how to do that yet, but I'll use this as a reference when I get some more time. After multiple attempts I decided to just ended up stacking my Luminance in Deep Sky Stacker.
