View Full Version here: : Are newer NUC's cheaper than old ones?

I was looking to get another NUC - Specifically a 7th Gen BLKNUC7i3DNK4E (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/122495/intel-nuc-kit-nuc7i3dnke.html). They were released back in Q3 2017.

I like them because they can be powered from 12 or 24V. Most other models require 19V

I can get a refurb one for about $450.

But for the sake of a $30 step down transformer, I can get one of these (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/217668/intel-nuc-11-essential-kit-nuc11atkpe.html?wapkw=BNUC11ATKPE00 00)for half the price. A NUC11ATKPE (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/217668/intel-nuc-11-essential-kit-nuc11atkpe.html?wapkw=BNUC11ATKPE00 00),released Q1 2022, it has 2 more processor cores, and 2 more USB ports.

Other than that I don't see much difference.

Am I going crazy?

Markus, nah you're not going crazy, I don't understand why the older ones are so pricey

I have an 8th gen model (the i3 also), but the CPU benchmarks for the latest model are "better" ... so theoretically faster, more power efficient.

Fwiw my 8th gen unit runs happily on 12v too...

Perhaps the auto manufacturers are buying them up for chip salvage.

Thanks guys. Good to have a sanity-check.

I assume the second hand one has everything included. Maybe check what the new one ships with?

Some barebones kits don't have windows installed (if that's a problem for you). And some don't have memory/SSD.

I’m running NUCs supplied with the 19V adapter on my 13.8V supply off the back of my UPBv2 and they all work great.

A range of model numbers, I can supply if that helps.

From my research 13.8v is within intel spec.
