I thought I would share some happy snaps of the relocation of my observatory to Harts Road. The first shot shows the completed observatory which is located up the driveway, upper left. I have a wifi link to the house. So apart from unbolting the high wind restraints for the dome I can run it from the house. So far that is working well. The second is a mockup of the pier. I know people love to overengineer their piers. My experience is standard reo and concrete works fine. I have added to the solar panels, and I had to extend the windbreak. The rest a, a picture is worth a thousand words. cheers Peter

Thanks. Glad you like it. It's dark, very quiet, but can also be very windy.

Faaaabulous looking location Peter  your house (bit bigger than ours at Eagleview :eyepop: ) is in the early days of construction on Google maps ;) When the wind isn't an issue, that looks like a fine location for a star party ;):astron: :drink: We are veritable neighbours and both very lucky buggers..huh?

Yes we are "lucky", though I think its actually down to hard work and planning. I thought your post and the work you have done was quite inspirational. Yes the pic on google maps is old. Looking back through the photos, I ralised I dug the hole for the pier in April 2018, before we had even started on the house! As for star parties bring them on.

It's on Google in Aug 2018 imagery :D

I built my first observatory (https://pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/observatory_construction&page=all) back in Dec 2003 - Feb 2004, before the house started too

Looking great Peter. Nice clear horizon, too.
You wouldn't want one of my spare hills, would you?

Thanks. Being off grid has some advantages, so far no blackouts, if we have any though we own them. meanwhile the grid has failed about 4 or 5 times in this area over the past year or two.
