Lumicon Digicam adapter

For those wanting to do some afocal astrophotography, this product from Lumicon looks pretty good, for a nice price too.

By all reports, it's much better than the Orion SteadyPix adapter which is a little more expensive too.

I'm considering getting one myself, no more messing around with tripods :bashcomp: :D

i was intending to build one for toucam that can fit 1.25" and 2" ep's, this doesn't look like it can take say 12.5mm or say a 2" ultrawide.

would not the toucam adapter (Mogg's) be better for prime focal use. Are you trying to use it afocal to save on the IR filter and Mogg adapter. I have a Creative Ultra NX that i belive has the same CCD as the toucam, but am unsure if it isnt a CMOS as the camera is able to move its focus without moving the lense around for face tracking.

But the Lumicon or Steadypix was going to be for my S7000 fuji fine pix and my HP 3Mp camera.

Currently, I have these in stock for $69 plus P&H

The S5000/S7000 have larger bodies and powerful zooms than most standard compacts, as a result these cameras might not be compatible with this type of bracket.

Well on there website they say will fit any camera. But i am guessing this is strething the truth a bit. Also I am not sure how my humble dob is going to handle the weight of the Camera plus this adapter on the focuser.

Well I finally got to have a play with this last night. After playing with it for around 5mins I've found that one thing I am going to need is some form of counter-weight system. Trying to take pictures of the moon and planets last night was impossible because the scope kept moving. I tried taping the phone book to the scope which worked, but it was annoying.

I've seen others using magnets. Magnets wouldnt stuff around with the mirror at all, would they?

mine is fine on the 10" dob. it is only getting near the horizon that i have an issue with tipping.

the 2" ultrawide does the same thing, but otherwise, anything 10 degrees or more, i have no probs!

mind you my camera is a toucam, not something heavy!

Hi David. Hm, my camera weights in at 270g and the adapter at 360g. I'm only using a single spring at the moment, I might try it with the second one on as well and see how that goes. Its going to need some form of counter weight though.

Magnets won't hurt any of your optics thiink. Some use old stuffed car speakers...glue a bit of felt on the contact surface, so theres no scratching when attaching to the tube. Probably looks unsightly, but it would work.

i have both springs on, also i let them off after every session, so i can extend their life

I'd hate to see what happens to the base of people that dont take their springs off! Of course mine come off after each session. :P
