Hi all. I am thinking of buying CCD Inspector to help identify tilt on my QHY268. The program is not cheap so I am asking opinions from members who are users, should I go ahead and just wear the cost. Thanks in advance.

Very expensive for what it is. I used the trial version and it was fine.
ASTAP can do something similar, but for free. Maybe not as detailed, but good enough.

I think Pixinsight also has similar features

I find aberration inspector in pixinsight a bit more reliable than tools that examine stars. Two photos with no equipment changes can have totally different tilt readings. Aberration inspector crops the edges and puts them next to a cropped image from the centre so you can visually compare starshapes. N.I.N.A also has something similar in the toolbar, at least in the latest beta build.

The single reason for me to buy CCD inspector was The CDIS Registration Plug-in for CCD stack. I have never used CCD inspector itself, dont care, This registration plug in allows automatic registration in CCD stack that is insanely convenient and accurate. Ive used it for over 10 years now and nothing beats it. Its odd that you need to buy CCD inspector to get this plug in, seems a bit greedy, but CCD stack with this plug in is, IMO, the best in the market.

I agree, the CDIS is very convenient and fast and accurate.

Hi Doug,
Have you tried Astap? I’ve found its tilt function useful.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I am looking at ASTAP which seems to do what I need. (If if is really does the job then I will be making a donation towards its development.)
