Hi Guys, as some of you may know I have inherited an other Desk Top Computer from our friend Alex on IIS.:D I do like Desktops.

I have it up and running and reset it to Win 10,went through all the motions and all is well, ;) so as it is another part of the dwelling I have turned it off for now.

So I come back inside and turn on my other Desktop which has Win 8.1 OS and in my emails there is a request for me to upgrade to Win 10.

Now how that happened I am not quite sure, but it seems that i can now, if I wish get a new operating system on a Desktop that has been troublesome many times.

Is this something to do with the Sync thing between devices, I did notice that when I was setting up the new Desktop

So what do you guys think, upgrade or just live with what i have, or have both Desktops running Win 10.

Thanks, Leon

I was never a fan of the WIn 8 versions so I would say upgrade - though I am generally slow to do it myself. I ran Win XP until it was no longer supported, skipped Vista totally, then Win 7 until about 18 months ago, avoiding 8 on my machines. And seeing as Win 11 won't work on my current PC or laptop I'll be with windows 10 until they die.

Cheers,
Mark

Thanks Mark, so if i decide to go this way how dose it effect all my programs and other stuff that is on the machine.
Surely it doesn't reset and I have to start from scratch.

That comes down to the programs themselves and their Win 10 compatibility - I never had any problems, upgraded & everything still worked. The bigger issue may be the drivers for some devices, depending on how old the pc is & component manufacturer. The pc I'm on now is about 10 or so years old (home built) and works fine under Win 10.

Cheers,
Mark

All left in place, but if you can I would back them up as a precaution - nothing guaranteed when it comes to computers & software.

The upgrade through Windows Update will leave your files and programs in place.

I’m impressed though, Leon! You finally going to upgrade that old XP rust bucket you have lying about as well ;)
