I was trialing the DSI with K3CCDTools tonight and for some reason the image came out in monochrome and with the bayer mask showing. Can anyone shed some light on this for me as I has me stumped. It shows on the screen in colour but captures in mono. Damn shame really 'cos capturing with K3 leave the standard meade software for dead in the quality of the outcome.

hi Paul a promising image you have there i had a very similiar problem. can you turn off colour when in live mode? what are you saving the image as because i can see lines through it. have you updated to v4 envisage?
If you are using envisage, you might want to test your line delay by covering the sensor and set exposure to 1 sec or higher.
If you are having problems checking and unchecking the black/white box, try this:
1) Make sure the DSI application is closed and the camera is plugged in
2) Open a DOS window (in XP that is Start / Run, type CMD and hit enter)
3) At the DOS command prompt, set the current directory to the directory of the DSI application (example CD C:\Program Files\Meade\AutostarSuite\DSI
4) The chip must be registered again by starting the DSI application and telling it the chip name.
5) Type the following. DSI.exe ICX404AK and hit enter (make sure ICX404AK is in all caps)
6) When the DSI application starts, it will still have the Mono checked and grayed out.
7) Close the Application
8) Restart the application again normally (or type DSI.exe and hit enter)
9) The app should open and the Mono box will be unchecked or checked but not grayed out (and they can then uncheck it)
my mistake. you are using k3ccdtools which i have no knowledge of. :P thanks for listening to my rumbling . i leave this incase someone does have this problem.

All advice welcome Eric. The images are saved as avi ( about 5 or 6 frames/avi). The avi come out in mono. The lines you see are the bayer matrix. Whether the setting in meade capture program (Meade Imaging, the original) are causing the problem I'm not sure. I save in Fits or Fits P3 (?)

Hi Paul
I don’t know if it is same problem but on my laptop Video capture card sometimes decide to switch itself to NTSC mode. Captured images then come B/W. So before I oped any imagining program I run software that come with capture card and check if PAL B is selected.

Thanks for the idea Karl , but the DSI is USB and doesn't use a Video capture card.
I just tried again tonight and changed the setting of the DSI in the meade program and then opened it in K3. Same problem

Hi Paul.
It looks like raw mode, needs to converted to colour mode.
Same look as a starshoot raw image.
As for the capture options, sorry, I use Nebulosity (Stark-labs.com)
Lots of camera support & fantastic real time focusing aid.
Hope this helps:)

I wasn't aware you could use Nebulosity to run the DSI. I might have to give it a try.
I'm not sure how to go about that using K3CCDTools. It shows as colour on the preview screen

Hi Paul
Just found this on the K3ccdtools site.
"When you process DSI captured frames from color camera, you must set the DSI de-Bayer filter to see the frames in color.
If you want to process the captured frames in other software I recommend you to load the AVI file into Processing part of K3CCDTools and use Export to unsigned 16-bit FIT files."
Hope it is helpful

Cheers, thanks Adrian. I'll definately look into it. I'd much rather use K3 than the old Meade capture. It's much simpler.
