View Full Version here: : The dob pod
For a 74 year old this “large box on stumps ” makes setting up and putting away a SW 10” goto flextube dob a much easier task. It’s constructed out of concrete form ply. The concrete slab on 3 treated pine stumps next to it is for raising the height of the telescope when in use , and is less than a metre from the corner of the door that forms a platform for manouvering the parts on custom trolleys. Hello,
Thank you very much for posting your Dob pod. Very nice way to do things and has been inspiring me for a possible permanent backyard setup.
I was thinking about taking it a step further and having the box with two cutouts in the base to allow for a roll out option. Maybe a little like a train shed.
Nice work and thanks again,
Steve

I really like this approach. Did you do anything for insulation? or condensation? Or insects?
Hi Jason,
I did insulate the walls on the sunny side , condensation has not been a problem , used contact insecticide around the door. Enclosed the optical tube in a plastic bag covered over with an aircraft passenger blanket. Dob mount covered with a blanket and plastic chair cover. Has been the telescopes home for a year with no sign of condensation or insects.. pretty good when we’ve had continual heavy wet weather with La Niña.
