Folder Permissions locked on Read Only

Anyone else getting this? It doesn’t matter what drive or location I create a folder (to hold light frames, calibrations etc for example), it gets marked Read Only and no way it will let me change those properties.

For example, I can’t stack using DSS because that requires some subsidiary files to be created. So DSS closes down.

are you running your computer as admin? Are you running DSS as admin?

I don’t know to be honest. I have never set up any other accounts since I installed the OS.

right mouse click on DSS app chose open as administrator

It gets worse.

I just did a clean install of Win10. And without having done anything else, the folder properties are already marked as Read Only. So it’s some weird default setting.

I’m at a total loss.

I found this solution on the web , don’t know if it will solve your problem

1/ Right click the folder > Properties
2/ Security tab > Advanced
3/ Click Change to right of owner
4/ Enter User ( username you used when installing Windows )
5/ Enable the checkbox Replace owner on sub containers and objects , then click Apply
6/ If prompted you do not have permission to read Click Yes
7/ Completely close out the Advanced Security Settings dialog
8/ Right click the folder> Properties
9/ Security tab > edit
10/ Add
11/ Enter Users into box and click Ok
12/ Enable the Full control checkbox then click Ok

Thanks anyway Martin. It made no difference. It makes me more and more inclined towards Linux-based systems all the time.

that link is interesting for an unexpected reason - it shows that "Windows Security" is either disabled or has been removed on some versions of Windows 10. The link takes you to a site showing how to manage various options inside the Windows Security section of the "Update and Security" Tab. Only trouble is, that there is no Windows Security component in the new Windows I just installed - Windows 10 Home. Just the Update section. How wierd is that?

Only thing I can think of is then to completely wipe the drive and start again, make sure you copy over files that you need.
