Hi,

I'll be going to a bortle 3 site in the Snowy Mountains in May and I was wondering what sort of filter would be best for a OSC (ASI2600MC)? I'll be using it with a SW Esprit 100ED.

I have an IDAS P1 LPR filter which I use in my normal bortle 6 skies in Sydney but have heard it would be better using a UV/IR cut filter when visiting dark skies.

Rene,
I use my 2600MC under both Bortle 8 and Bortle 3 skies
Under Bortle 3 skies I don’t use any filters during the dark , under a >30% moon phase I use a Duoband filter which works well with all types of nebula
I only shoot galaxies during the dark definitely without a filter
I use a 8” f5 newt ( 1000mm fl ) under Bortle 3 skies
Cheers

Thanks Martin. I’ll be buying a 2600MC soon and I’ll be down in the Snowy Mountains from the 15th of May which will be just past new moon.

I’ve heard some people use a UV/IR cut filter to prevent star bloat.

The 2600MC already has an IR cut filter in front of the sensor , most previous ZWO cameras only had an AR protective window in front of the sensor
