I think that Mr H0ugh should be awarded the perpetual "Striker Buys" trophy, for his dedicated and unswerving commitment to the astronomical purchasing community - the shops must love him walking in the door, or "checking" the "Checkout" box on the shopping cart...
Cheers
Dennis
PS – looks a fantastic camera.
That's my boy !!!

mmmm so we have a date that starts the period known as "a long while" so if we subtract the date of the next camera purchase we can determine that otherwise flexible time frame reference with a new degree of certainty.
Any December purchases are the best as in no time at all one can say..Oh but I got that one last year.
Dont feel guilty David you are talking to a fella that once owned 15 guitars (at the same time not over a period of 20 years or something so unambitious.) Guns, bikes and boats have had their lists also.
There is concern however that the increase of digital cameras is greatly reducing the number of photons being released back to the outter solar system... governments are seeking ways to find photon offset credits provided by sun glasses manufactures. But concern grows nevertheless.
So a day may come when you can not buy more so over indulgence...which it is not I hasten to add... at this time is not unreasonable. Did you know there is a certain camera that is 39 meg mmmm I bet you do:)

In 5yrs we'll look back and laugh at how we thought that a 39mp camera was so awesome . It'll be entry level stuff by then.
I've got a copy of an old ad, somewhere, raving about the latest new "10megabyte" hard disk drive. Only $1000! How would you ever fill something that huge?

COngrats on 2K posts JJJ, and I recently threw out the original PCUSer magazines, when a 286 pc with a whopping 2meg ram was $3890, with a 20 meg HDD upgraded from a 10GIG HDD. As fot he cameras, they reach a saturation point, only the sensitivity can be increased now, the 39MP camera will still be way outof out league
ANd Xelasnave congrats for 2K posts

Our office led the field when we purchased an unbelievable machine with 640k ram (less than a meg hard to believe it was so exciting) and 20 meg hard drive outputting to a big dot matrix printer.. $2500 for each item. But then the portable phone was $4500. I recall enquiring about about the first web cam (and hardware to upgrade to run it) $4000 ..I waited and picked up a web cam for the lap top a couple of weeks ago $29.
Thanks for pointing out 2k had been reached I would have missed it. Congrates to JJJ.

So how do you rate the pentax cameras for Astronomy David, are they getting better or still a long way to go before being worthy. What modifications would you like to see being changed on the cameras, to make them more competitive for Astronomical use?

We may have caught it from someone with over 8000 posts to their credit;) ..
I will be interested to hear your report above all others on the 400 d if you have plans to push it to the limit as they say.
And may I ask do you write for photography magazines if so which one?.. I notice you have contributed to at least one astronomy magazine and hence my question. I value only few opinions and yours has always been sound.
