Astronomik Dark Filter 2in - worth it?

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has used the Astronomik Dark Filter 2in to take their dark frames, instead of the usual method of capping off the scope. I'm looking at this so I can take my dark frames during the night while I'm in bed and not waste time the next day. It would mean that my darks are taken as close as possible to when my subs were taken.

So I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this filter and is it any good or a waste?

Save your money. Cap your scope or your camera and shoot your darks in a dark place to avoid light leaks. I assume your camera has a TEC? If so do a dark library.

If you can control the temperature on your camera sensor, then darks don't need to be taken at the time of shooting. You can build up a library of darks at the common exposure & gain settings you use during cloudy days and give yourself more time shooting lights in the field.
