Hi Guys, well my desk top has been running beautifully, turned it off last night no problems, turned it on this morning it just went pop and that was it, the same noise one gets when a fuse blows.

On closer inspection and looking inside the power supply i found that a small diode of sorts feel out.

There was an small electrical burnt odour but nothing to serious.

It seems that the power supply has shorted or something and decided that today was the day to do it.

Ok because of the buggered power supply would everything still be OK

I have opened computers before and can get around them internally so to speak, so if i could get hold of a new power supply I could fit it.

Any suggestions are appreciated the power supply is a

CMX Smart QC Atx550H switching power supply for a personal computer

Where would one get one of these please :)

If it's just the power supply you should be right Leon. Just take it to any computer shop, they can swap that over the counter while you wait. ~$75 I reckon. Don't try to do it yourself. Most MBs have a soft switch these days and the connections can be a little fiddly.

Thanks Marc, I hope that's the case.

Swap it yourself, one of the easiest jobs, just four screws and a few leads you can't get wrong but if not sure it is a CHEAP job for a reputable shop

Yes Hemi, it is all good, a friend of mine who dose some work from home had it sorted in an afternoon and i picked it up on the Sunday, pretty good service for a weekend job.
New power supply, cleaned and serviced the machine and replaced a sticky start up button, all up $100.00 dollars in his hand no receipt required thanks.;)
