DIY observatory at Malta

Hi,
I and my girlfriend spent a week at Malta, as usual when we travel I try to find something connected to astronomy. This time I already before we go came in contact with Maurice at Malta. He is an amateur astronomer and has built his own observatory on top of his house's roof.

He invited us for a guided tour around the western coust of the Malta and a visit at his home and the observatory.

When we left Stockholm, Sweden where I live we had minus 10 degrees Celcius daytime, down at Malta we had about plus 20 degrees Celsius, 30 degree more positive! Even at the night the tempertures didn't fall bellow +15 degrees.

Hi all,
Glad to hear you like the report, and yes Malta was wonderful. Far away from Australia, maybe not common for you to visit this small island. Allmost all people at Malta speak english so it's very easy to stay there too. I hope some of you get the opportunity to visit Malta in future.

Now we are planning for next trip in Europe.

A great insight to a very very clever mans work here, to build it on his own takes a lot of skill and patience I would imagine. Malta is an amazing island with history that runs deep with monolithic structures dated back thousands of years BC, and of course the famous seige they endured during the reign of the Ottoman Empire. My family is planning on visiting this year I will try and make time to see this!

Oh... forgotten, there are more about astronomy at Malta island.

There are a couple of ancient temples as mentioned above. Some of them maybe could have been used as solar calenders.
