USB video capture

Can anyone recommend a composite video -> USB, video capture interface?
Something that will power directly off the USB port would be nice.

Yep. It's not difficult to find products. It's difficult to choose the right product if you don't have a frame of reference.

Ive used one of these for a couple of years with no problems :thumbsup:on W2000 and XP with various cameras. Works fine with the GStar-EX

It can take composite or s video, and audio.

Cant remember where I got but probably Sydney area cost around $100

Not sure if this is relevant to your intended application, but on a "slow & old" computer I once had a TV Tuner card that relied on software and the system CPU to perform all the processing and I used to lose video/audio sync, as well as get dropped frames.

Once I upgraded to a TV Tuner card that did all the grunt work via hardware onboard the card, all was well and I could use the same computer to perform tasks whilst it was also recording a TV program to the hard drive. It was a 2001 era P4 1.8 Ghz with 512M RAM.

I have been using the DLink one...........
It comes in a very tidy little alluminium box, all powered by the usb cable, works a treat. Can't remember what I paid, but I don't think was that much.

Thanks for that. Appreciate it. I imagine that there aren't too many people capturing this way around here.
I think possibly the Pinnacle DVC90 or USBGear VD204, will do the job. They both seem to capture uncompressed frames as well, but then if manufacturers actually replied to emails about technical questions about their products, they might have happier customers... or might have customers :whistle:
