The door looks like it's in a suitable location, being placed just to the open side of the centre, I'd suggest that is better than at one end or the other (mine is at the open end, on the end wall).
The window isn't ideal being in the open end, as (depending on your evironment) it would let dust blow in onto the scope that would be permenantly set up in that open end. But if you found it to be a problem you could seal the window well or cover it up I guess.
6.2m is a very nice length - mine is 6m x 3m and it's great having the 2 halves. Ideally I would opt for a wall between the two of some kind. I use a fabric curtain because I'm not advanced enough in the DIY stakes to build a deviding wall with rolling door. Some sort of barrier helps with heat and light retention.
All in all it looks great! Excellent opportunity and possibility.

You need to get them PSP skills working and whack a few stars in the black

Have you tried the Roll Off Roof group for ideas yet ?

There are tips on observatory construction and planning plus a few free plans. I am sure these will help you.
Good luck with your project!

Thanks Stewart....
Baz, Yeah it has, its getting started thats my problem. LOL
Ken, you are a visionary mate.... why didnt I think of using it as a shed instead of a place to hoard things.

A shed IS where you hoard things!
Just call it a 'Hoarding shed with a slide off roof!' That way you can stack your hoarded things higher

Not sure yet Eric, its a toss up between plastic rollers we use on Sectional roller doors or something like solid rubber wheels with bearings.

Been there done that Rob, used to have a 2.3m dome in the back yard.
Now onto a quick update:
Okay some of you will cringe at this idea, but I just cannot bring myself to digging another hole, so I have decided I will just be using chemical anchors to fix the pier into position. The only downside is vibrations from movement inside the shed or surroundings. But I dont think this will bother me too much, I am not as fussy as some when it comes to this. Most of my Astrophotography will be wider fields so tiny vibrations will not be a problem. (I hope heheh) Maybe later on then I might consider it.
