Webcam shutter speeds

Hi, I have been learning the back yard imaging basics with using a toucam through K3ccd tools, has been lots of fun and the odd frustration :doh: that everyone seems to go through.

How do we know exactly what the shutter speed is when we move the shutter slider around on the K3 picture window, i cant seem to find any numeric representation for the setting, is this normal ?? do we just guess the speed and set it to the desired level via the light meter and on screen avi display?
Any advice welcomed:)

It should come up in the box above the shutter speed slider; 1/25, 1/33, 1/50, 1/100 etc




ps One of the reasons I use WcCtrl for settings control is because it give numerical readouts for ALL the camera settings.

Thanks ponders, gee i get no display above the K3 slider at all.

I have Wc control but havent used it yet=one step at a time i am a bit challenged with software.

wonder if my K3 is a bit dicey then?

What version are you using?

Forget that question I've just checked V1, 2 and 3 and they all show the same thing. See attached.

Have you modded an 840k with the 900nc firmware? If so, that's the reason why (happened to me too).

Lost the labels for the various shutter speeds.

wcctrl is a work around, as Paul said.

Otherwise, just go by memory.. 1/25s, 1/33s, 1/50s, etc.

Mike it is an unmodified 900nc- havent progressed to the exposure mod yet.

Paul it is the free version 1, which needs the key.
My window does not look look yours at all, i wish it did!

It must be a 900nc firmware thing then, Steve.. whether it's the 840k or 900nc.

Not much you can do about it unless you use wcctrl.

I didn't find it too much of a problem, because I always just adjusted the sputter speed depending on the exposure needed based on what I was imaging and how bright it was.

Yeah i guess i shouldnt worry, from what i can gather we want a nice big fat yellew band in the midle of the meter display? seems to work thus far..
Have found your articles a great help also in getting started, the printouts are getting a bit dog eared now..lol.

yeh just use the white meter to determine the correct exposure - somewhere about 200 is ideal usually.
