Hi,

I am thinking of buying Pixinsight to put on a Windows 7 PC. Could anyone please give me an idea of how well this works in Windows 7? It is apparently not one of their mainstream supported platforms. I know that I can try the demo but still wanted to get some feedback on it.

Thanks,

Only available as a 64 bit program if you want support, I use it on Win 7 no issues.

Windows Vista and OS X 10.8 no longer supported, but should still work - https://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=9327.0
32 bit Windows versions no longer supported (presumably coinciding with MS no longer supporting XP) - https://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=6704.0
So provided 64 bit Win 7 or later, should be right.

"working" - it does leave your images a little green, though. :P

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. Is it possible to save an image to resume at a later date in Pixinsight without losing full functionality of the software? My current processing software doesn't have that option and I have to process the image in the one go or not have as effective a noise reduction at the end, as the 'tracking' gets turned off. Also, I can't seem to find a list of supported cameras for Pixinsight on their site (or anywhere else). I am currently using a Canon 450D and hope to get a CCD in the future, so would Pixinsight support the 450D and a good amount of CCDs?

Thanks,
jman17

You can save what you're currently working on as a "project" and it will save all open images, process icons, history etc as they are. Open the project up in 2 years time and it should be just as you left it, history and all.

PI doesn't care about your camera. It just deals with image files. Certainly deals with 450D RAW files, JPG, FITS and more. What is your image capture software? Presumably it would save CCD images as FITS?

That's a very cool feature indeed. I still have that project file you saved for me on my notebook from the first astrofest. Need a big drive though to save a project. It can amount to GB.

Hi,

Sorry to take so long to reply. I am using Backyard EOS with my DSLR and am using Pixinsight now just loading up FITS files from DSS, so far with no problems.

Thanks,
