Great Work Shawn, you have put some effort into this in such a short time span too, a real work of art, bet you are in there looking at the views from inside the dome already :P

Heres the pics...Calcs were spot on, one inch out on one post, I knew about that...and 600kg, would have put a big dent in the roof if dropped...

Cheers All thanks for looking..

What a fantastic sight to see it all coming together, it wont be long now until it's up and running.
It has to be the amateur astronomer's dream to have your own domed observatory.

great stuff

Hey Shawn now thats its pretty near finished do you recon you could pop down and give me a hand with doing one, smaller but now that you understand it I just thought maybe....
That look fantastic and room to move.. it looks huge. Lucky it did not turn out windy, you would appreciate how the dome may respond to a gust.. probably drag the crane along behind it.. you are a legend mate top stuff.

Wow - what a project! :eyepop: What a dome - it looks fantastic. I admire your skills and talent in engineering and in pulling this one off Shawn - a truly monumental effort. Go get some sleep and rest now, you deserve it.

Well done

thanyou for that Dennis, but I have to give credit to the many forums / newsgroups I gleamed information off, including a large contribution from IIS , with my frequent posts and feedback received. All I did was implement it, You might say its been a collaberative effort, my money, your ideas...;)

Monumentally impressive.

May I ask what the dome is covered with?

and the dome frame - it is a geodesic design, what is it made from and how do the corners attach to each other?

is it cyclone proof?

Hi Sarah, sure is cyclone proof. he construction of the dome is a long and tedious task. a lot to cover in a single reply. Ive just finished writing up a HTML on geo construction ,"or at least the way I did it.:) I have a late xmas lunch to go to right now, As soon as I get back, Ill forward it to Mr Salway, for possible submission to the articles dept...

Thanks for you interest, there is a lot of information here, but it still does not cover it all....http://ravenshoe.net/bbs/YaBB.pl?num=1163921664/51#51
