Hi.

This morning I was recording a magnificent red channel on Saturn in a moment of nice seeing, and at the end of 2 minutes I pressed "Stop" to finish the recording, and ICCapture (the capture tool I use with the DMK) crashed.

It meant the AVI file it recorded is not complete - the data is there, but it's missing a header or trailer record/bytes so that the avi decompressors won't open it (unrecognised as an avi file).

It's not the first time ICCapture has crashed at that same point, but usually the data hasn't been worth trying to salvage so I just throw it away and record again.

This mornnig I recorded again, but I'd like to try and repair the AVI file to get at the data within it.

Does anyone know of any tools that can repair an AVI file?

Thanks.

Hi Mike,
I've recently used VLC media player for movies etc.
For dodgy AVI files it prompts me with a "repair this AVI" message.
It allows me to view, but not save the file.
It may allow you to see if the file is worth all the effort.
Cheers
