What software would you recomend for making animations?

If you want a nice easy free one (as long as you don't mind an "Unregistered" banner on each animation) is Advanced Gif Animator (http://www.gif-animator.com/)

I use imagemagick, but it works best if you are not afraid of the keyboard. Nothing is quicker. e.g., making a 5 frames per second animation from individual frames, say frame_001.jpg, frame_002.jpg etc, you do:
convert -delay 20 frames*.jpg animation.gif

Thanks, I'll give them both a try.

I bought Jasc Software Animation Shop 3, it was worth it (for me). Can work off TIF's, jpeg's, etc, and you can save the raw-animation for later.
You can move each frame for better registration, crop, change the delay between each frame, etc.
I love it. All of my Jupiter animations over the last year were done with it.

jjj, to save you a bit of confusion (with all the different versions available), if you're going to try Imagemagick and you use a Windows PC, you can download it from here: imagemagick for Windows (http://www.imagemagick.org/script/binary-releases.php#windows).

I made this with the Advanced Gif Animator.
You're right Paul, very quick and easy.
After loading the software, it took 5 minutes to go through the tutorial, then another couple of minutes to make the animation.

Excellent jjj! I'd change the frame delay to about 1/15s, that's what i've found best for smooth looking animations (I find yours a bit slow paced).
Well done

Once sped up you can see the necessity of careful timing between photos to make a smooth animation.
This is so much fun.:D

What inspired me to have a go was my spider plants in the kitchen.
They were wilted so I watered them. Knowing how quick they recover I thought they'd make a good animation.
So after polar aligning the tripod to the stove I set the timer and came back every 8 minutes to take a photo.
If I wasn't so tired I would have stayed up most of the night with them. Took a total of 17 pics.
Animated it today, and it came out pretty good.

This is for you Mr Ving.:hi:
I had to make it really small to keep the file size down.
Like I said, I wish I could have stayed up all night to get the plant's full rejuvination.
gee that looks kinda spooky!

I don't think I have any more pictures suitable for animating.
So these will be the last. ( and aren't you glad? )
The first one is from Astrofest 2006, getting ready for the group photo.
The second is pretty obvious.
I didn't take the photo's darn it.
Poor old luna looks like she's rolling drunk from the effects of libation.
ok, the moon is making me seasick!!! :P

It's fun making animations. Well done Jeanette!
I use Jasc Animation Shop in PaintShop Pro. Very easy and heaps of control over it.
