Hi all
I use The blink programme (.exe file) that comes with Maxim DL. I am now getting an error saying run time error 6 overflow.
If I use the older version of the blink programme it works fine?

Any ideas/help with runtime error 6 overflow most welcome.
Thanks
Peter

Hi Phil
Thanks for the reply.
It's windows 7 home premium.

The sn search tool.exe programme is in the Maximim DL5 directory.

Here is the normal procedure.
1. From a shortcut on the desktop I just click on the exe file
2. It opens with a window that shows 3 directories - before / after and new and a start button.
3. I press start and then a warning box comes up noting "The number of images before and after don't match" I click ok
4. It then opens a Maxim DL5 window then blinks the images.

Since whatever I did (I suspect in the way I closed it down) I get to step 3 then press ok and that's when the message "runtime error 6 overflow" comes up and immediately close the sn tool window.
So it seems that the blink tool tries to talk to maxim dl5 and maxim says nope cant do.

Thanks again
Peter

Hi Peter,

Unfortunately, that's a very generic error and doesn't suggest any obvious or specific cause. A search on the Diffraction forum didn't find and relevant posts either. If it used to work and has suddenly stopped you could try running it with Administrator privileges or reinstalling. I assume you've already tried running it with different directories and/or image files?

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Rick
I have reinstalled MaximDl5 (licensed) cleaned registry with cc cleaner then tried running again but same issues.
Have read overflow suggests visual c issues but not up with that. Seems the blink exe has to request maxim to open and it wont. Looked up maxim but am outside 1 year tech help.
Weird is I can change options and folders when I get to step 3 and it saves them just wont link/open with maxim so not sure how or what I changed when I closed it.
I have clicked on run as administrator is that what you meant?
Will try any ideas
Thanks again
Peter

Yes, that's what I meant. That can help if it's a permissions/privileges problem. Another random thought is to bring up Maxim manually before you try to run the blink program.

Unfortunately, my knowledge of the internals of Windows is pretty superficial. I learned Comp Sci in the days when we still used real operating systems ;)

Cheers,
Rick.

a good troubleshooting step is: try in another user account.
create a new user with Administrator privileges. log out from old user. log in as new user.
test.
if it doesn't work either you know it's a system wide issue. Remedy: restore OS to a restore point from when it still worked.

if it works in the new user it's not a system wide issue but user specific.

Having admin priviledges on your user account doesn't necessarily mean that those priviledges are applied at install or runtime.
It's good practice to always use the right click command "run as administrator" on installation and then make sure your launch icon also has it's properties set to run as administrator.
We run PABX programming sofware on our W7 machines at work, at least one program crashes if the afformentioned steps aren't followed. I've seen the same behaviour with some other software.
That may have nothing to do with your problem but it may be worth deinstalling the offending software and reinstalling using the above procedure.

Thanks guys will try these ideas tomorrow. Reinstalling windows 7 to factory maybe a final option. But reluctant to do so since my other win7 machine wont do updates since I reinstalled win7. Maybe buy a win10 Lenovo 310 i7 and start afresh.
