View Full Version here: : PixIsight and IRIS
Just started using deepSkyStacker. Excellent and easy to use.
Anyone using PixInsight or IRIS Freeware and is it easy to use? The results obtainable look outstanding.

The latest version of IRIS, Oct 2006 is a very powerfull imaging tool. Will handle everything from the humble webcam through to the Canon DSLR. It allows aquisition, stacking, filtering etc etc. There's not much it can't do......BUT
It's not user friendly!!
You'll spend as much time trying to find the command you need as actually "doing" somethng with it. Takes some time to even learn the basics. Good news is that there are many tutorials popping up on the net which can ease some of the pain.
I've got it installed and use it for some of the spectroscope work, but much prefer AstroArt3 for general imaging work.

I've used PixInSight for some planetary work (processing) after registax for stacking.
It's very powerful, but quite daunting at first. There's some good tutorials on their website.
I haven't used it for a while, but I always tell myself to give it another try.
