Raspberry Pi 3 for obs control?

Hi,

wondering if the latest Raspberry Pi 3 would have enough grunt to run a telescope/imaging system.

I have cables running everywhere and I wonder whether a Rapberry Pi located on my pier with everything else attached to it would be able to run:

Cartes du Ciel
SGP for automation / imgae aquisition
PHD Guiding
Teamviewer

I could then have a single cable running to a monitor, a bluetooth keyboard/mouse.

This could connect to my network and I could sit inside in the warm using Teamviewer to watch what was happening....

Have no experience with Raspberry Pi, so have no idea about it's real world capabilities.

The Raspberry Pi can't run a normal installation of Windows, which counts out SGPro for automation, and ASCOM more generally. The linux equivalent of ASCOM and SGPro is INDI and EKOS respectively. See here: http://indilib.org/

you are probably better off running a mini PC, Lenovo has some good products http://www3.lenovo.com/au/en/desktops-and-all-in-ones/mini-computers/c/TINY

not as cheap but should handle everything you need and can clean up the cables.

Further to Aidan's comment, I am currently using a Gigabyte BRIX (http://www.techbuy.com.au/p/318806/SYSTEMS_MINI_|_PORTABLE_SYSTEMS/Gigabyte/GB-BXBT-2807.asp) for my obs computers, running Win 8.1 Pro. I have experimented with using INDI on a Raspberry Pi 2 - at the time I didn't feel that it was robust enough for reliable unattended automation, however I plan to revisit at a later date.

The answer to your first question is yes, but not running windows. See the PiAstroHub (http://www.cloudynights.com/topic/385710-piastrohub-raspberrypi-for-autoguidingdslrgoto/) project on Cloudy nights.
You get Cartes du Ciel, guiding (linguider), plate solving, control of focuser, DSLR, CCD and a few other bits and bobs. You can connect to it wirelessly with a browser on your tablet, PC, etc.

I had found out a bit about Raspberry Pi's capabilities, and think that I may very well be able to use it...There seems lot of potential in Indi and Kstars. Have ordered a Pi kit to play with...
