Long time lurker, I came here to post my mount for sale, but I have to be a member for 30 days and have 5 posts in order to do that, so here's my first.

I've been reading all the posts about a DIY observatory, and loved the Absco pool shed idea.

Since the shed is a little too low for my set up, I had to build a foundation to lift it up. I know nothing about building, but had a crack anyway.

The whol process was much easier than I expected and it turned out pretty well. It has a solar panel and ventilation fans to keep the scope from being too hot at dusk.

Attached are photos of the build process. My son now wants to build more things.

Good idea, extended height looks very appropriate - well done !
Possible storm about tomoro to put it to the test - wouldnt hurt to cover the gear/payload with a good plastic bag just to be on the safe side ?
All the best

Good idea..
But it would have been way better if you made the concrete pier instead of using tripod.

It's had a fair bit or rain already with no leaks, so I'm happy about that. Much Sikaflex has been used. No doubt I will be removing the imaging train and using a tarp to cover the scope during storm predictions though.

As for tripod vs. pier, I couldn't find any piers for sale, and know next to nothing about concreting. (this was the first time I've used concrete). I want a pier, but too afraid that I'll mess it up. Using AO takes care of any vibrations on the tripod and the shed shields most of the breezes.
