DSO photographing

After getting a Philips TouCam 844k for planetary imaging, and after a lot of help from Iceman on how to use it in conjunction with my scope (thanks heaps, Mike!), I realise that what I am really interested in imaging is DSOs.

I kinda doubt that my TouCam is going to be of much help with this - can anyone suggest a moderately priced digital camera (either for still shots or vids) that is good to use for this purpose?

Yup, that's what I've observed when seeing some of the spectacular images that amateur astronomers have posted on the 'Net...I do know the 350d is pricey (for me, anyways)...

Don't give up on the ToUcam yet Mick. Saturn is only just around the corner and once you get well and truely bitten by the planetary bug there will be no turning back for you :lol:

Have you thought about a DSI or similar

hmmm...no, I hadn't Paul - can you point me to any images that have been acquired using this cam? It does seems pretty reasonable priced, from what I see on, say, Ebay's "Buy it Now" ads.

Do an advance search on this site in the Deep Space section for DSI, username EzyStyles. He is the master around here and turns out some truely amazing DSI images

What about the Canon 400D which has just come out? It seems to be going for much the same price as I paid for my 350D (if you shop around) and has more features--10megapix, self cleaning sensor etc. On the other hand you may be able to pick up a 350D cheaply if the dealer is trying to shift "old" stock.
