I sent Orion an email over a week ago regarding the SSAG Win.10 driver and still have had no reply. I'm on the Orion mailing list and received an advert today for Xmas special of the SSAG. http://www.telescope.com/Orion-StarShoot-AutoGuider/p/52064.uts?utm_source=151211&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=US-12Deals11! Note that it is still listed as not compatible with Win.10 Leaving many of us in the lurch. :mad2: Fortunately I have an old (very old) lap-top which still works and can drive the guider.

Just did a quick Google search because I couldn't believe it and sure enough there's a Windows 8 driver.

Nothing changed in the driver model between Windows 8 and 10 and in many cases even Windows 7 drivers work. There are plenty of people who have posted in various places that the SSAG works just fine with Windows 10.

Thanks for that info Chris. I must admit I didn't get mine to work, but will have another go.

Received the following reply to my email from Orion today:

Thank you for your interest in our product. While I still cannot give an exact date, we are making good progress. The new driver continues to test well and we need to finalize the install routine and updated instructions. I expect we should have an announcement shortly.

Clear Skies,

Rich R.

So all will resolve soon.

Can you explain some symptoms? Does it show up as an unknown device? Does Windows give an error while installing the driver?

Seems to install a WIN8 driver OK - well at least, no error messages. But when, after selecting the OrionSSAG, you ask PHD to connect to the camera it simply says "Camera connect failed".

I have an Orion SSAG running off my Windows 10 Laptop with no problems. Yes... you need to install the older drivers, but they work fine. Running PHD2 and all working fine.

Can't quite remember how I set it all up... there were some error messages as I installed drivers, but I got past them.

Happy to help if you are still stuck.... and I can remember what I did or didn't do.

Geoff.

Hi Geoff,
Sorry I haven't responded earlier but have only just returned home today after 2 weeks at music camp. :violin:
Many thanks for the tip and I'll certainly give it a go as soon as we've finished unpacking etc. I'll post how I get on.

Hi again,
Well I uninstalled all the PHD software including drivers. Then I just installed PHD vers. 2.2.1.; no additional drivers. Lo and behold, it works! No error messages during installation. Thanks Geoff for giving me the inspiration to try again. Now all I need is a clear moonless night.
